Community Involvement in School Improvement

  • Parent - Staff Achievement Focus Committee - Group meets monthly to have a dialog about student achievement.  The discussion helps us refine what the school does to meet the needs of our community as we work to improve academic success for our students.
     
  • LSAC - Information about the status of smaller learning community development is often a part of the discussion at the monthly Local School Advisory Council meeting.
     
  • CAAC - The Career Academy Advisory Committee met beginning in early 2008 through late fall 2008 to develop recommendations for implementation of Smaller Learning Community strategies in our grades 10-12.  The committee was disbanded in late fall 2008 as it presented its recommendations for faculty and administrative consideration. (disbanded)
     
  • Site Council - School climate is a key area of concern for the Site Council.  Proposed changes within the school - including those related to smaller learning community development are often brought to this group for input.  Site Council students have taken the lead in working to make Connections meet the needs of the school community.
     
  • Cadre - Representative group of school professionals who meet with a focus on school redesign.  Discussion topics include structural change, and instructional improvement strategies. (disbanded)
     
  • PLC - Professional Learning Communities involve all faculty and site administration in discussions aimed at improving academic achievement for our students.  .
     
  • DC - Department Coordinator meetings have included many discussions of the merits of a variety of approaches to improving academic success for our students.  Replaced by IC
     
  • IC - Instructional Coordinator have replaced our department coordinator model.
     
  • SILT - School Improvement Leadership Team, similar to our disbanded "CADRE" consists of a variety of individuals representing the interest of the broad range of programs at South.  A main focus of the work of this team is to set direction for professional development and monitor progress toward school improvement goals.
     
  • Admin Team - This group is ultimately responsible for decision making within the school.  The team is represented within all the other groups listed here.
